Dealing With Choices the Wise Way

Were you ever faced with the perplexing situation of choosing one way to go rather than another? There might be two or more options at hand, each one seeming to be the best, yet only one option is the right one. And we are faced daily with such situations in matters both big and small.

However, the Bible says “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but in the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 14:12). And as children of God, wanting to do whatever is truly right, what can we do?

When dealing with choices, here are three steps we can follow:

1… Seek the wise counsel of God. It can be a small matter and you might think it is too small to go to God with, however God is willing to act in our daily affairs, wanting to straighten them out, and it is in small triumphs that we gain confidence in following through with what He says or directs. And these small triumphs act as examples for when the big challenges come.

2…Here is a Scripture that can help you build faith in God’s direction, and confidence in yourself as you read and meditate on it several times. It is Psalm 143:8, which says: “Cause me to know the way where I should walk for my soul trusteth in thee…”

3… Be patient as you seek God’s counsel. Watch and wait for His Spirit’s leading or direction, giving thanks even before you see the results.

What is choice? Choice is a gift of God, which is the option to select one thing or circumstance over another. In the Bible, Moses admonished the children of Israel to “choose life” and the reason is because of the awesome truth that we were created with the capacity to choose.

The Bible tells us that we are created in the “image and likeness” of God. This  is an awesome truth that we must never forget. And in times when we feel the pressures of life closing in on us, we need to quickly remind ourselves of who we truly are: that we are created in the image and likeness of God, and as such, we are created with the ability to choose, and to do so wisely.

Both God and Moses are saying: “choose life…” meaning “choose that which is productive for good and not evil…” Choose life. Choose freedom in the Spirit. Choose to let your thoughts dwell on good and positive matters. Choose to dwell on “whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are of good report” (Phil. 4:8), and such like.

Choose to be a peacemaker and not to be a person of discord.Choose the peace of Christ over anger and hatred, choose contentment over disappointment and regret, choose freedom over bondage. In other words choose to seek God and have faith in Him to work things out beneficially to all concerned in any disturbing matter.

SPEAK THE WORD: “Today, I choose life. I choose all that is good, positive and true. I choose to let God work through this matter to bring the highest good to all concerned. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
