Your distress is wearing you out. You are burdened, confused and frustrated, not knowing what to do, wondering if it will ever end; but here is good news: you can find a way out. You can be set free.
We are a society of much stress, and one of the reasons for this is our wanting to fix too many issues at one time in our own strength. However, neither you nor I can do this successfully without relying on the power and wisdom of God, who is greater than we are.
When we try to fix many issues in our lives at the same time in our own strength, it is like being in the park on a windy day, and holding on to the strings of thirty helium-filled balloons. This is indeed a picture of the anxiety and stress we allow into our lives. And in essence, this is exactly what most of us do most of the time. We hold on too tightly and in many instances, we assume burdens that do not really concern us, trying to fix them. In many instances we are dancing to someone else’s tune. And I often wonder why we do that…
What issues in your life are you holding on to, trying to fix them in your own strength? Take a look and see…however, regardless of what you see, there is a solution.
Philippians 4:6 encourages us not to be anxious for anything; but in every thing by prayer and supplication, we should let your requests be known unto God. Here are some practical steps you can take:
1… First of all, recognize that God is not the author of confusion. Then, become very quiet and carefully analyze what is stressing you out. Too often we cannot pinpoint what really is troubling us. However, as soon as we find out exactly what the culprit is, it begins to lessen its impact.…
2… Ask yourself questions like these: What really is my problem? What really am I avoiding? Am I afraid of something…what? Am I afraid of something that might happen; something I do not want to deal with? Why? Am I afraid of being a loser or considered to be a loser? Do I feel inadequate about something?
3…When you can discern exactly what lies behind your distress, confront it directly, telling it its days are over, and you refuse to be further bothered by it.
4…Go to your heavenly Father who is all wisdom, intelligence and power. Seek His help and thank Him even before you see His results. God cares for you and He will intervene and show you what you need to do if you would surrender from your own efforts.
Stress is a form of anxiety, and the key to living in freedom from fear, worry and anxiety is seeking God’s guidance and direction daily, and living in expectation of His intervention. In other words, deepen your relationship with God and be confident that you will see His guidance and direction in your affairs. Psalm 143:8b says: “…cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.” This entire psalm is a prayer that can help us build a sense of deliverance and guidance from above.
May the Lord richly bless you with His peace, love and prosperity.
